If You Can't Take in
Enough Plant Foods

Dr. John C. Lowe

My interest in diet and nutrition began with reading books by Adelle Davis when I was a young man at the University of West Florida. Because of my interest in nutritional supplements, when I went to chiropractic college, I was particularly interested in biochemistry and clinical nutrition. Most of my fellow students were further along than I in their understanding of these subjects. They had the advantage of one or both of their parents being chiropractic doctors, and they had been raised within a social environment appreciative of a wholesome diet and nutrition supplements.

My interest in nutrition mounted in my years  of study at what's now the Southern California University of Health Sciences. Just before I received my doctorate in chiropractic, I got a surprise that, for a broke intern, meant more than I can explain: I won the American Chiropractic Association's annual Scientific Paper Award for an article I wrote for the Journal of the American Chiropractic Association. The paper was on nutrition and arthritic disease.

By then, I had fully appreciated the value of botanicals in my diet. After a year of clinical practice in Coral Gables, Florida, however, I realized that I didn't know enough about the biochemical bases of diet and nutritional. So I applied for a teaching position at the Texas Chiropractic College where I was hired to teach  clinical nutrition. That year, I wrote 17 articles on nutrition for journals and trade papers. But one year of the politics of a college campus was enough for me. I went into private practice where I spent a great deal of time counseling patients, friends, and family on the benefits of diet and nutrition.

In studying the history of human diet and nutrition, I learned something crucially important to optimal health from medical anthropologists: that is, in preliterate societies (we used to call them "primitive"), humans untouched by civilization who have a plentiful selection of all types of foods, on average eat about one third animal foods and two thirds plant foods.

Since learning that, I've counseled others to include as wide an array of plant foods in their diet as possible. And that has been an objective of mine. I have to say, though, that it's been a thwarted objective. An unfortunate fact is that it's a hell of a tough task ingesting enough plant foods while living in fast-paced modern industrialized society.

After all these years of trying to take in enough plant foods, and often failing, and seeing others fail, too, we now have Franconia's New Life Multi. On too many days, I still have a tough time ingesting enough plant foods. On those days, I increase my intake of New Life Multi capsules. I keep a bottle on my desk and another in the kitchen, which makes it easy to remember to take 1-to-2 capsules every four or five hours—although I think the 4 capsules recommended on the label is plenty for most people. (I've always gone a little overboard with what I've thought to be good life.)

My point is that New Life Multi is ideal for those of us (probably the majority) who often fail to take in enough plant foods. The product contains a wide array of vegetables, fruits, berries, and seeds. To get so many different raw foods into the capsules requires that small amounts be included. Because of that, the product can't meet our needs for the macro-nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. But the variety of botanical ingredients provides the micro-nutrients that are vital for good health.

New Life Multi also contains probiotics, and it contains digestive enzymes to help digest the raw food ingredients. Most of the raw foods in the product are organic, which means they're free from the pesticides that we've recently learned make some people fat. In my mind, then, the product is ideal for

The product is made to exacting standards to benefits those who take it. For example, the wheat grass and Barley grass in it are gluten free. Also, the vitamin B12 in it is methylcobalamin. This is a form of B12 that the human body uses as a enzyme cofactor. By comparison, most other supplements contain cyanocobalamin, a synthetic form that isn't directly used by the body, not until it is converted to an active form, such as methylcobalamin.

The product has my most enthusiastic endorsement. That's why my name is on the label.

13 Digestive Enzymes in New Life Multi. Taking New Life Multi provides one with a wide range of fruits, vegetables, grains, and herbs. Many hypothyroid and thyroid hormone resistant patients have trouble digesting such natural foods. But they don't have to be concerned about digestion. The reason is that New Life Multi contains 13 different digestive enzymes. The various enzymes digest different carbohydrates, fats, proteins, lactose, and the cellulose in plant foods.

Vitamin C in New Life Multi:
Not Synthetic

Some people have asked us about which ingredients in New Life Multi are synthetic. Very few of the 107 ingredients are synthetic, and I'll soon post a complete answer to the question. However, most people have asked specifically whether the vitamin C in the product is synthetic or natural. I'll answer their question now.

The vitamin C in New Life Multi is not synthetic. It comes from "Camu-camu," which is a small bushy tree that grows along the riverside in the Amazon rainforest in Peru and Brazil. The tree produces a reddish/purplish fruit that is somewhat like cherries.

The vitamin C content of Camu-camu is extremely high compared to other botanical sources. Vitamin C makes up some 2%-to-3% of fresh weight of camu camu. The high content makes the tree a good source of plant-derived vitamin C.

Camu-camu has several healthful properties. It reduces pain and is an astringent. It also has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral properties. Among the nutrients in camu-camu are protein; calcium; iron; carotene; the B vitamins niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin; the amino acids serine, valine, and leucine; and, of course, vitamin C.

The vitamin C in New Life Multi, then, is natural. This ingredient is representative of most of the others in the product. They are natural and of the highest quality available. It will be tough for other multi products to live up to what New Life Multi offers those who go the extra mile for optimal health.
