Dr. Lowe: I must apologize to you for a problem I have in answering your question forthrightly. The problem is that the FDA severely restricts free speech when it comes to products, such as HSF, classified as “dietary supplements,” although many supplements (to speak obliquely) are powerfully health inducing. FDA restrictions dictate that we not relate a dietary supplement to any disease and that we not compare a supplement to a prescription drug. So much for our nation's founding fathers and their love of the open exchange of potentially-useful information.
However, the open access journal Thyroid Science (www.thyroidscience.com)
has
published two clinical trials in which I compared HSF to a synthetic
T3 product. The
T3 product, Cynomel, is a high-quality brand that US citizens can
legally purchase
from off-shore pharmacies without a prescription. That Cynomel isn’t
a
prescription drug when purchased from an off-shore pharmacy enabled
me (at
some risk I suppose) to compare Cynomel to HSF. I'll refer you to
those 2. Lowe, J.C.: Comparative effects of Cynomel and Hypo Support Formula. Thyroid Science, 4(10):CR1-8, 2009. http://www.thyroidscience.com/cases/lowe.10.5.09/lowe.hsf.10.5.09.htm
I am presently working with a laboratory to develop a dietary
desiccated
thyroid product that will be an improvement over HSF. It should be
available in about
